What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position, you will:

  • identify emerging opportunities to improve the sustainability of the provincial transportation system
  • lead, plan and participate in transportation research, policy, planning studies and projects related to environmental assessment and protection
  • develop, recommend and implement transportation related environmental policies
  • review, prepare and present policy and technical reports to address strategic transportation issues associated with air quality, climate change and highway noise mitigation
  • plan and participate on transportation studies and projects that affect the province
  • provide advice and establish partnerships with stakeholders to work on transportation-related environmental policy initiatives
  • prepare and present evidence-based recommendations to senior decision makers

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge and Expertise

  • you have knowledge of environmental management theories, practices, and land-use planning policy to provide advice on matters with specific focus on air quality, climate change and noise mitigation along highways
  • you have knowledge of theories and practices related to noise and air quality assessment, mitigation and human health standards to identify emerging issues and provide advice
  • you have knowledge of air quality and noise assessment methodology, transportation air pollutant dispersion models and noise control models
  • you have knowledge of transportation design processes, construction, maintenance and operations practices to lead and coordinate environmental studies and projects
  • you have project management knowledge and skills to lead concurrent project, studies and project teams
  • you have knowledge of environmental assessment and protection legislation to identify issues with a specific focus on air quality, climate change and noise mitigation

Consultation and Advisory Skills

  • you have knowledge of ministry and government policy development and planning processes, business plans and strategic directions to review, evaluate and provide advice on environmental policy issues
  • you can consult, negotiate and build effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

Communication Skills

  • you can prepare and present briefings, reports and analysis on policy issues for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • you can use computer software applications, including air and noise modelling software, to prepare and present reports and statistical analysis

Research and Analytical Skills

  • you have knowledge of data collection and can plan research methodology and strategy for complex policy research projects

Salary Range: $73,533.85 - $95,682.60 per year
